Is consumer spending the way out of the recession
According to CNN, America is in a deep recession. Experts claim that the best way out is for consumers to spend money rather than save. Is this a good idea?
Let’s take a closer look. If consumers don’t spend that means retailers and wholesalers don’t make sales. If retailers and wholesalers don’t sell, this means manufacturers have no need to manufacture, which also means that they don’t have work for employees, resulting in job loss. Makes sense.
Other experts believe to get consumers to spend, confidence must come from the Stock Market and Washington D.C. showing signs that the economy is getting stronger. More jobs are being created, the market rises, foreclosures on homes are stabilized and the banks are lending. Makes sense as well. But if we must spend money for economic recovery I say go out and get a Cheap LCD TV if you can afford it, maybe it will help the cause.
